Hotel Overview

The Berlin Marriott is conveniently situated in the Potsdamer Platz area of the city centre close to many of Berlin’s most famous attractions including the Brandenburg Gate, The Reichstag building and the Holocaust Memorial. If you’re arriving by air, like I did, into Tegel it’s an easy bus journey from the airport in to the city centre.

The hotel itself is very modern with 370 guest rooms and 9 deluxe suites, each fitted with in room entertainment, stone bathrooms with walk in showers and stylish modern decor.

Check In

I arrived at the hotel at around 4 pm and was greeted by a very efficient and polite member of staff on the front desk. Check in was quick and easy and I was given the key to my room within a few minutes. At the time of check in I was also offered an upgrade (paid) to an executive room and access to the executive lounge which I declined, in hindsight I wish I’d taken the offer as thinking about it it was a good deal.

Accommodation

My room was a standard room on the 9th floor of the hotel, it was clean, modern and spacious with all the usual amenities including that very comfortable Marriott bed.

For working there was a decent sized desk with plenty of room to spread out, plenty of sockets for those all important gadgets and a leather office chair to sit on. One of the things that I love about Marriott is that their rooms are always equipped with complimentary tea and coffee, here was no exception and it was replenished daily. There was a large plasma type TV in the room with a good selection of channels including BBC1 and ITV. Because of my Marriott Rewards status I enjoyed complimentary WIFI which is always very useful and was much appreciated, it also worked very well. Other room furnishings included two chairs and a small coffee table.

One of the things that impressed me most about my room was the bathroom and in particular the shower. It was fantastic, a large rain shower head literally soaked you and I just loved it, there was also a hand held attachment if you prefer that. A good selection of bathroom amenities were provided including shower gel, shampoo and soap, again these were replenished daily. There was also plenty of good quality towels.

Restaurants & Bars

The hotels main restaurant is the Midtown Grill, an American style steakhouse with an open kitchen and outdoor bar seating in the warmer weather. I only ate breakfast in the restaurant and the food I experienced was very good. There was plenty of choice with everything you’d expect from cereals and fruit to omelettes and pancakes all served with typical German efficiency.

There are two bars in the hotel, the Bar Catwalk which bills itself as a “vibrant destination” and “the first and only fashion bar in Berlin”. Offering innovative drinks and live DJ’s in a trendy exciting atmosphere. I didn’t experience this bar myself.

The Lobby Lounge is the other bar and was a great place to enjoy a relaxing drink. Prices of drinks aren’t cheap but I enjoyed it the couple of times I visited. The Lobby Lounge is also open for breakfast, lunch and snacks and offers free WIFI.

Staff

I found the staff at the Berlin Marriott to be very friendly and their service to be efficient, any requests I had were dealt with promptly and with minimal fuss.

In My Opinion

As readers of this you’re probably aware that I’m a big fan of Marriott hotels and I try and use them if I can. This particular Marriott in my opinion was excellent, from check in to departure I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend anyone coming to Berlin to check them out and consider staying, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
